What is Ramanandi sect?

The Ramanandi sect traces its origins to Lord Rama himself, making it one of the largest sects of Hindus. Adherent to egalitarian ideology, followers of the Ramanandi sect are vegetarian and follow Ramanand's distinctive Advaita philosophy. According to this philosophy, all beings are part of the divine, and the goal of life is to achieve unity with God through surrender and renunciation of ego.

This sect emphasizes devotion to God without discriminating on the basis of caste or creed and its primary objective is to immerse oneself in devotion to God. It is believed that Mother Sita initiated Lord Hanuman into the Ramanandi tradition and made him his first disciple. Later, this tradition passed through Brahma, Vashishtha, Vedavyas, Shukadev and many other prominent figures to Ramananda, Ramanandacharya and Ramanandi Acharyas.
