Naseeruddin Shah is one of the most acclaimed actors in the industry who has won several awards for his performances over the years. In a new interview, the veteran actor revealed that he doesn't take these awards seriously and said that he uses his Filmfare awards as his washroom door handle.
Naseeruddin Shah has won three National Awards for his work in Paar, Sparsh, and Iqbal. He also won three Filmfare Awards for his performances in Aakrosh, Chakra, and Masoom. In a new interview, the actor opened up about how he doesn't take awards seriously and feels they are a result of lobbying in the industry.
In a new interview with The Lallantop, the actor was asked about his thoughts on awards and whether there is any truth to the rumors that he uses awards as door handles in his house. The actor laughed and said, "Any actor who has put his life and effort into playing a role is a good actor. If you pick one person out of the lot and say 'This is the best actor of the year', so how is this right? Fair? I'm not proud of those awards. I didn't even go to collect the last two awards I got. So, when I built a farmhouse I decided to keep these awards there. Whatever Will go to the washroom, will get two awards each. Handles are made of Filmfare awards."
The Ishqiya actor also claimed that the awards are nothing but the result of lobbying, and added, "I didn't find any value in these trophies. I was happy when I got the initials. But then, trophies started piling up around me. Sooner or later I understood that these awards are the result of lobbying. No one is getting these awards because of their merit. So I stopped paying attention to them. After that when I got Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, I reminded me of my late father who was always worried about my job and used to say 'If you do this stupid work, you will become a fool'. So, when I went to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to receive the award, I looked up And asked my dad if he was watching all this... He was watching... and I am sure he was happy... I was happy to get those awards. But I don't give importance to these competitive awards Gives
Naseeruddin Shah was last seen in the second season of Taj: Reign of Revenge. It also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Rahul Bose, Sandhya Mridul, and Zarina Wahab. It premieres on May 12, 2023, on Zee5.
