Increase the security of hospitals, create police stations and outposts! The Home Secretary said in a meeting with doctors

Amidst the questions being raised about the safety of doctors after the Kolkata rape-murder case, an important meeting was held between the Union Home Secretary and the Health Secretary on Wednesday regarding the safety of medical professionals. In this meeting, instructions were given to increase the security of hospitals and set up police stations.

In the meeting, first of all, the Chief Secretary and DGP of the states gave information about the steps being taken for the safety of doctors in hospitals in their respective states. It was said that apart from government and private hospitals, the security of doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers should be increased in medical colleges and healthcare institutes. It was told in the meeting that security arrangements are good in 26 states of the country, but work needs to be done in other places.

It was decided in the meeting that doctors should be informed in a better way about the provisions given in the Indian Judicial Code. Apart from this, the number of security officers in medical colleges should be increased. Police verification of all the outsourcing staff employed in hospitals and medical colleges should be done. Apart from this, the security audit of district-level medical colleges and district hospitals should be done immediately by the District Magistrate and SP.

Instructions were given in the meeting to make provision for setting up police posts and police stations in hospitals. Apart from this, night patrolling should also be increased. CCTV networks in hospitals should also be reviewed. Adequate lighting should be arranged in hospitals and medical colleges. Apart from this, a security review of vacant places should be done at a fixed time interval. - The number of wheelchairs and stretchers should be increased inside hospitals so that one does not have to depend on attendants and their number can be reduced. Regular security patrolling should also be done at night.
