Before talking about Rohan Jaitley, it is important to remember that Arun Jaitley had a very close relationship with Delhi's Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium. In 1999, he took over as the President of DDCA. During his entire tenure, he had to face opposition from big leaders. Yet neither Jaitley weakened nor his decisions. Veteran players like Bishan Singh Bedi kept opposing him year after year. Bedi Sahab also contested elections against Jaitley. It is said that Arun Jaitley gave his vote to Bishan Singh Bedi. Because he knew that all the proxy votes of DDCA were in his favor and he would not lose.

Although many people call this just a 'publicity stunt'. But it is true that despite the massive opposition, Arun Jaitley respected Bishan Singh Bedi a lot. Kirti Azad of his party protested many times at the door of DDCA. He went on a hunger strike. But Arun Jaitley did not get perturbed. He knew how to keep people together. In 2006, when Virat Kohli's father suddenly died during a Ranji Trophy match, Jaitley also went to the funeral. Virat played matches even after his father's death. In that difficult time, Arun Jaitley told Virat Kohli that he does not need to worry about anything.

After Arun Jaitley's demise, the Ferozeshah Stadium was renamed as Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, once again Bishan Singh Bedi not only opposed this decision but also wrote a letter to remove his name from the stadium. Despite all these things, people associated with Delhi cricket know very well what kind of relationship Arun Jaitley had with Delhi cricket and cricketers. He was with the players in their happiness and sorrow. Virender Sehwag was even married at Arun Jaitley's house.

Well, a few years later when veteran players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and Ashish Nehra protested by questioning the working style of DDCA, Jaitley listened to them very patiently and resolved them. No matter how busy he was with his political commitments, it is said that he never made the cricketers wait. He always had time for the cricketers. This is the reason why people who gathered to protest against DDCA would leave in the end expressing faith in him and saying that he would solve the problem. And once it also happened that Arun Jaitley dismissed the selection committee in the middle of the season.

Rohan Jaitley's name came into discussion when the current secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Jay Shah, was elected as the ICC chairman. Jay Shah will take over this new responsibility in December. He has been unanimously elected as the ICC chairman. As soon as he takes up this role, the post of BCCI secretary will be vacant. Rohan Jaitley is also a friend of Jay Shah. That is why Rohan Jaitley's name emerged. But at present, the math of BCCI says that Rohan Jaitley is unlikely to be elected for this responsibility.

Rohan Jaitley has also said in an interview that at present his priority is the Delhi Premier League. He is focusing a lot on Delhi players playing for the IPL and the country through the Delhi Premier League. In such a situation, he does not seem to be becoming the secretary after Jai Shah. Among the current officials of BCCI, Ashish Shelar, and Devjit Saikia are said to have a stronger claim than him. Ashish Shelar is the current treasurer of BCCI while Devjit Saikia is the joint secretary.

There must be a different feeling when you enter the stadium which has been named after your father. No one knows this feeling better than Rohan Jaitley. Rohan is also young like Jay Shah. His age must also be around 35. When Rohan Jaitley took over as DDCA President, he filed his nomination on the last day of nomination. Till that time only one contender had filed a nomination for the post of President. After Rohan's name came, he also withdrew his name. In this way, Rohan Jaitley was elected DDCA President unopposed.

The major reforms in DDCA in the last three to four years include the 'approvals' due to which the Old Pavilion and a large part of its surroundings remained closed. After Rohan Jaitley became the president, some changes have also been made there. Apart from this, after Rohan's arrival, a good amount of work has been done on the quality of the pitch of the Delhi ground. The stadium had to be upgraded during the World Cup. That 'upgradation' has also been done. Overall, it would be right to say that he has followed in the footsteps of his father Arun Jaitley. But there is still a long way to go. There is a huge difference between the politics of DDCA and BCCI. It will take time for Rohan to build and increase his acceptance in BCCI politics.
