Nabanna campaign against Kolkata riots tomorrow, Bengal police on alert

A big protest is going to be held in Kolkata and Howrah on Tuesday (August 27) against the rape and murder of a doctor in West Bengal. Non-political people will march towards Nabanna i.e. the state secretariat demanding justice. Government employees will start a rally from Howrah Maidan towards Nabanna in protest against TMC. A rally of students will start from Satragachi towards Nabanna. A rally will start from College Square for Nabanna. Another rally will start from Hastings. It will cross the Hooghly River and go to Nabanna.

Kolkata and Howrah police had earlier refused to permit this demonstration. The police chief fears that this will be a very big protest. Law and order may also deteriorate. BJP, SUCI, Congress, and leftist parties will gather in the rally without any banner. It is being called a mass rally.

Given this rally, 3 thousand policemen have been deployed at different places. The police have banned the movement of all heavy vehicles in and out of the city from 9 am to 10 pm. The police believe that political parties can worsen the situation again like on 21 July 1993. In 1993, 13 people were killed in police firing.

Given Tuesday's rallies, more than 100 IPS have been deployed in the field. BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya says that this is a people's rally. They want to go to Nabanna for justice. This rally is being taken out against the brutality and murder of the doctor in RG Kar. This is a mass movement against the early fall of the Mamata government.

Large-scale violence may erupt during the rally: Police chief

Terming the Nabanna rally as illegal, West Bengal Police said that the organizers had not taken permission for it. The government has implemented Section 163 of the BNSS. We came to know about the Nabanna Abhiyan rally from the media. Nabanna is a restricted area. Therefore, police permission has to be taken for any event there, which is rarely given.

The police chief said that we have received intelligence that large-scale violence can erupt during the rally. Some miscreants are trying to provoke the police. We are ready to make arrangements at other places in Kolkata and Howrah, provided they (those taking out the rally) follow the legal procedures.
