Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is reportedly on the verge of completing a permanent move to Napoli. The 27-year-old spent most of the summer at Euro 2024 in Germany, where Steve Clarke's Scotland team aimed for continental success. However, after losing their opening match 5-1 to hosts Germany, Scotland's chances of advancing to the knockout stages quickly diminished, and they were ultimately eliminated.

Despite the disappointment at the international level, McTominay enjoyed a strong individual season during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring 10 goals across all competitions for Manchester United. Since graduating from the Red Devils' academy in 2017, the 52-time international has made 255 appearances for the Premier League giants, scoring 29 goals.

McTominay Nearing Napoli Move

According to The Athletic, McTominay is edging closer to leaving Old Trafford at the end of the summer transfer window, with Manchester United and Napoli agreeing on a £25.4 million deal for the midfielder. McTominay, who has only ever played for United at the professional level, is now in talks with Napoli to finalize personal terms before the move to Serie A can be confirmed.

With the deal in its advanced stages, McTominay is expected to travel to Italy to undergo medical tests. While Manchester United is reluctant to lose the midfielder due to his contributions under Erik ten Hag last season, they cannot guarantee him a regular starting spot in the lineup.

Premier League Interest in McTominay

Although McTominay appears likely to join Serie A contenders Napoli, allowing him to continue competing for major honors in club football, he could have chosen a different path. Earlier in the transfer window, Fulham expressed strong interest in signing the 27-year-old, even submitting a £20 million bid. However, Manchester United quickly rejected the offer from the London club.

It is believed that Manuel Ugarte, supposedly joining from Paris Saint-Germain, is set to replace McTominay at Manchester United, with the Uruguayan midfielder expected to be registered in time for the Premier League match against Liverpool next month.
